We invite you to be a part of this grandiose event: In HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL our primary interest is creating an interactive performance piece and party that asks the audience & participants to express their hidden desires, face their inhibitions, and explore other worlds.our primary interest is creating an interactive performance Installation and party that asks the audience & participants to express their hidden desires, face their inhibitions, and explore other worlds ( we are not interested in making a Haunted House or having any ghosts or vampires). We are looking for Submissions for Installations or Performance Vignettes, collaborations, volunteers to make the event go over smoothly, and we have a Materials list below with a few things we are looking for. Check out the Timeline and the Details of the show, and let us know!
Timeline:
- Submissions: Contact us ASAP- (your idea doesn't have to be fully actualized- we just want to get an idea of the team with whom we are working) anthony@rednovae.org | 347-870-0550
- Performance Dates: October 29th-31st*
(*not all collaborators have to perform in all of the performances)
- Order of Events:
- 1- Contact us - let us know who you are, what your background is, what you do, and what you are interested in doing.
- 2- Check out the Basement - Come take a look at the space and what is already going on
- 3- Coordination of Schedules - Figure out times to meet with others to work on sections to develop material. I will be working on this project nonstop for the next few weeks, so the space will be available pretty frequently. We want this to be a fun process.
- 4- Performance/Party - Time for the fun!
We are looking for:
- SUBMISSIONS for events, ideas, installations, vignettes that fit within the framework of this Halloween Carnival- so check out the basic concept and parameters and tell us your idea. We are open to artists from all genres, and collaborations. We are looking for something you have been working on that you think may fit into this show, or to create something fun and new. Kristen & myself will act as both creators and artistic facilitators for this event to help piece everything together.
- COLLABORATORS to help build and perform in this work. Looking for individuals who want to be a part of a fun creative process.
- VOLUNTEERS to help actualize this event and help everything go smoothly. We need security, box office, bartenders, servers, and general helpers. You will get to see the show for free along with other perks.
- MATERIALS check out our material list below to see if there is anything you can give or lend to us.
Framework
- THE SPACE- There are 4 rooms, several closets, and a hallway in a basement. Its connected to an apartment that has 3 rooms.
- NO HALLOWEEN CLICHES - we want to create a new experience, not the same old haunted house with vampires, ghosts, and zombies. Think of what is actually disturbing, dark, or scary about your everyday. Alternatively what exists in our everyday that is unfamiliar.
- INSTALLATIONS & VIGNETTES - Installations that can happen alongside of other installations in the same room are encouraged, a vignette or a short series of vignettes are great. Something that makes a statement but doesn't take over the whole show, we have to consider everything that will be happening. It doesn't have to be performance, it could be video, visual, musical, etc.
- COLLABORATIONS - If you are a part of one installation that lasts for a section of the event, we ask that you also be open to being a part of other installations that require more individuals. We will have a cast meeting to determine your interests in working with others.
- THREE MAIN SECTIONS - We have three main sections that each have a theme, so we are interested in how people can play with these themes, create contrast, etc. If you have an idea that doesn't seem like it fits anywhere let us know and we'll see how we can work with it.
- * Aqu A* is a parallel dimension that exists on the opposite end of the black hole GCIRS 13E located at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. This dimension serves as a vacuum and recycling system for all of the physical and energetic garbage that is emitted from our collective existence on earth and other planets within the Milky Way Galaxy. In this dimension the audience will come to encounter a universe directly parallel to ours that includes landscapes and images never seen before that are simultaneously spectacular and curiously disturbing. This installation will take form as a unique guided experience stimulating all 5 senses in ways that are unfamiliar or not recognizable. This is a room from emotional release, contemplation, and exploration.
- * America! explores the darker aspects of American history and modern lifestyle, demonstrating the hypocrisy that undermines American ideals, and asks the question, "What does it mean to be an American?" The participants can take part in a Water Boarding ride, meet a truly patriotic god-fearing man and wife, or gaze into the world of conspiracy theory among other events. For this room we are interested in the oddities that are unique to American culture.
- * feti-feti lets the participants witness and explore a Pandora's box of sexual fantasies. This installation questions the idea of "perversion" and explores sexuality as a public experience (in a safe environment). Within the installation the audience can choose to be a voyeur, an exhibitionist - or both, be tied up by a dominatrix, or record their darkest sexual fantasy that will become a part of the sound score, among other *fun* activities. This room is the last main room that the audience enters and doubles as the party room

Anthony Whitehurst feels that his primary life-purpose is one of a healing nature. A few of the ways healing takes form is through the sharing of artistic creations, holistic energetic healing, & community based activism. His artistic work - often collaborative - is interdisciplinary with a strong emphasis in movement, mostly meditative in both the process and performance, and always political either overly or covertly. Expressed through traditionally staged pieces, site-specific installations, guerrilla performance, interactive events, and parties, Anthony is primarily interested in the transformational nature of artistic creation in how it affects and changes the audience/participants. A graduate from the University of Louisiana of Lafayette with a BFA in dance, his work has been shown in NYC at the Mulberry Street Theatre, Dixon Place, Judson Church, Topaz Arts, Queens Museum, the Performance Mix Festival at Joyce Soho, BAAD, and the A.W.A.R.D. Show. He has enjoyed artistic residencies at Queens Museum and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Anthony has danced with Larry Keigwin, Curt Haworth, Amanda Loulaki, Shaleigh Danceworks, Megan Sipe/Dancing Fish Productions, Of Moving Colors Productions, and he is currently dancing for Moving Theater, Neta Pulvermacher, Kristen Schifferdecker, Pavel Zustiak/Palissimo Dance Theater. While in college he co-founded a Hip-Hop Dance Theatre group called Rhythm N Sol Dance Group, and is now co-artistic director of Red Novae-movement group with Kristen Schifferdecker. Kristen Schifferdecker is a movement artist, community organizer, and bioenergetic healer. Kristen believes in the transformational power of art to create a better society. She is interested in staging reality to refined forms that describe how our lives are experienced and that illuminate perspectives uncommonly noticed or realizedÉ Historically working primarily in the dance medium, Kristen uses other media such as live music, film, visual art, and theater as needed to support choreographic intent. Kristen's latest investigation Stellina seeks to mindfully create experiences on how we make the aesthetic of art and healing easily understood, and to investigate how we (as people, dancers or non-dancers) resonate with monochromatic colors in natural environments. Kristen is collaborating with visual artists, musicians, meditators, and healing artists for this work. Her past work has been shown in New York, Iowa, Louisiana, and North Carolina at venues such as Dancenow/NYC Festival at DTW, NDA's Performance Mix at Joyce SoHo, Dixon Place, Queens Museum of Art, Movement Research, and DNA, among others. Kristen also produces sound design for dance and works as a free-lance nonprofit administrator. kristen@rednovae.org
